5.0 Swamped

In the upcoming issue Swamped! we consider the field of the swamp as a place of stagnation, but also a zone of transition of matter and meaning. As a space in which the distinction between water and land is no longer properly legible, swamps can be perceived as areas where the earth continuously puts limits to any methods of human control.

Therefore, Western epistemologies and politics have put a lot of energy into anxious and repeated attempts to recapture these areas, and their human and non-human lives, within comprehensible categories of knowledge -- and other marginalizing fantasies. Swamps have thus become spaces of contestation and transition both as physical environments, and as semantic ones.

The main question our contributions aim to answer is: how do these strands of meaning and practices diverge and/or come together; where do these strands contradict; and what do these divergences, contradictions and convergences produce?
